GAPNEWS Ghana, 4th fastest growing economy in Africa - IMF                 President Akufo Addo GHANA, currently the 11 biggest economy in Africa, is expected to become the fourth fastest-growing economy in Africa this year, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The West African country is expected to hit 7.6 per cent Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate, from the projected 6.3 per cent GDP in 2018, the IMF said, adding “Ghana is an economic powerhouse in West Africa with a GDP size of approximately $51 billion.” Oil-rich Libya is expected to become the fastest growing economy in Africa with a GDP growth rate of 10.8 per cent this year. GAPNEWS High Corperate tax is affecting rural Bank in GHana. Rural and Community Banks in the country are calling for a review of the corporate tax which stands at 25%. The corporate tax on the annual income of therural and community banks was increased from 8% to 25% after the introduction of the new income tax Act 2015, Act 896 in September 2015. Managing Director of ARB Apex Bank Limited, Kojo Mattah said the increment is making the operations of the banks very difficult. “Corporate tax for rural and community banks was increased from 8% to 25% and the rural banks have been talking about it appealing to government to take a second look at it. “The reason being that it is affecting their operations especially in the difficult terrain that the banks operate,” he added. Kojo Mattah called on the government to reduce the corporate tax to allow the rural banks to use the difference to help their communities as part of their corporate social responsibility.
