GAPNEWS I will support Bawumia to ‘break the 8 – Adwoa Safo The defeated parliamentary aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency in the recently held primary, Sarah Adwoa Safo has pledged her commitment to supporting campaign efforts to enable the party retain power. According to her, despite losing her bid to remain as Member of Parliament for the Constituency to Mike Ocquaye Junior, she remains steadfast and committed to the shared ideals of the NPP. “…despite the setback and outcome of last Saturday’s parliamentary primaries in Dome-Kwabenya, I remain steadfast in my commitment to the shared values of the New Patriotic Party and our corporate quest to break the 8 with H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, come December 7,2024,” she said in a press release dated January 30 that refutes speculations that she intends to run as an independent candidate in the forthcoming elections.
GAPNEWS Ablakwa on $8.5 million budget for Ghana Black Stars at AFCON 2023   The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has said the Ministry of Youth and Sports budgeted $8.5 million ( GH₵ 105 million) for the Black Stars' campaign at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).  His disclosure follows calls for transparency before the tournament regarding the budget allocated for the national team's participation. Previously, the Ministry, through its Public Relations Officer Charles Amofah, declined to reveal the budget, stating that it was still "a work in progress."      However, in a recent social media post, Ablakwa said he relied on "unimpeachable, irrefutable, and indisputable intercepted documents" to reveal the specific figure. GAPNEWS     Major Mahama trial: 12 persons found guilty as two others acquitted and discharged   A 7-member jury has found twelve accused persons standing trial for the alleged murder of Major Maxwell Mahama guilty of conspiracy to commit murder and committing murder. Two others, Bismark Donkor and Bismark Abanga were found not guilty of conspiracy to commit murder. Among the convicts was the assemblyman of Denkyira-Obuasi, William Baah, who was also found guilty of abetment to commit crime namely murder.   The Assemblyman involved in the murder of the late Major Mahama has been found guilty of abetment of crime. The verdict was issued by the High Cout in Accra on January 29. GAPNEWS We are not aware of decision by Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger to withdraw – ECOWAS     The  Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)  has said that its attention has been drawn to a statement broadcast on the National Televisions of  Mali  and  Niger  announcing the decision of  Burkina Faso , Mali and Niger to withdraw from  ECOWAS . The Commission said it has not been officially informed about this  development . “The ECOWAS Commission is yet to receive any direct formal notification from the three Member States about their intention to withdraw from the Community,” part of a press release dated January 28 read.
